35 years technology pro environment – Engineering and plant construction company from Dresden celebrates anniversary and looks back on numerous successful projects

Umwelt- und Ingenieurtechnik GmbH Dresden (UIT), engineering company and plant manufacturer from Saxony, is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. Since its foundation, the company is synonymous with innovative technological solutions in the service of the environment. While projects and business areas have continued to develop over the decades, one thing has remained unchanged: the commitment to making a sustainable contribution to environmental protection with modern technology.

UIT has been active throughout Germany and internationally as an engineering service provider and plant manufacturer for 35 years.

From a manufacturer of measuring instruments to an engineering company

The UIT was founded in 1990 in the wake of German reunification from the former VEB Center for Research and Technology (ZFT). In cooperation with the Dresden Grundwasser Forschungszentrum (DGFZ), a successful business development began in the field of environmental technology — with a focus on field technology for in-situ measurement and sampling of groundwater and soil, as well as laboratory facilities for environmental testing.

The UIT became part of the General Atomics Europe Group in 1992 (then known as the Spezialtechnik Gruppe). The takeover by the American Blue family opened up new prospects for the expansion of international business. Since then, UIT has been working closely with other companies in the General Atomics Group, contributing its expertise to numerous joint projects.

“Today we are celebrating 35 years of development that has not been without its challenges, but with the continuous development of expertise and methodological requirements, as well as profitability. Fundamental to this is the UIT team, which constantly tackles and solves exciting and challenging tasks with commitment and expertise. I wish the company continued perseverance and strength for a long future“ said Dr. Horst Märten, former managing director of UIT, during a company event celebrating the 35th anniversary.

One of the first cooperation projects was the planning and construction of a thermal recycling plant for the destruction of residues from ammunition disposal for Spreewerk Lübben GmbH.

In the years that followed, UIT increasingly developed into an engineering company for plant construction and planning and a center of excellence for environmental technologies. Building on its comprehensive expertise in the remediation of mines and processing plants, the company expanded its portfolio to include exploration, mining technology and hydrometallurgical process engineering. In doing so, UIT made an important contribution to the development of environmentally friendly mining technologies — including for international projects of the General Atomics Group in Australia and the USA.

Continuous growth trajectory

Parallel to its strategic development, the company itself also grew: over the years, a small team developed into a medium-sized company with around 80 employees today.

"35 years of UIT is a special anniversary for us. It shows that our solutions are well received on the market and solve real challenges. I have been part of this company for 25 years in various positions and have experienced the development process firsthand. It fills me with pride to see how we have developed as a team—and where we stand today. We would like to thank all our employees, partners, suppliers, and customers who have accompanied us on this journey and who are helping to shape the future of UIT" said Lars Braun, Managing Director of Umwelt- und Ingenieurtechnik GmbH Dresden.

Numerous projects in Europe and worldwide

Today, UIT is also in high demand among international customers and has completed projects in Latvia, Finland, Australia, South Africa, Chile, the USA and many other countries. With an interdisciplinary team, a solution-oriented approach, and a great deal of creativity, the company plans, develops and optimizes customized systems. These range from ultrafiltration and retardation systems to mine water and industrial wastewater treatment plants, biogas testing facilities, and pilot plants for process engineering. Each project is individually tailored to the requirements of the customer.

UIT intends to continue expanding its expertise in the future, particularly in the area of critical raw materials.

The versatility of UIT's projects shows that the focus on modern technological solutions that benefit our environment has been a recurring theme throughout the company's 35-year history.
